Contrary to speculations, Nigerians can directly retrieve their Tax Identification Number (TIN) from the official website of the Nigerian Revenue Service at taxid.nrs.gov.ng or taxid.jrb.gov.ng, and not through middlemen.
Nigerian tax analyst, Marvis Oduogu, disclosed this during a live conversation on Adamimogo FM, warning that retrieving a TIN does not attract any cost and that no payment should be made.
Oduogu further clarified that the National Identification Number (NIN) can be used to secure a TIN, urging business owners to create a separate tax ID and account for their businesses to aid traceability.
He also explained that individuals who earn ₦800,000 and above after all allowable deductions such as housing and insurance are eligible for personal income tax at the rate of 15 percent.
The tax analyst further harped on the importance of keeping detailed records of all earnings and expenditures to ensure easy collation and proper traceability of taxes
