The Federal Government has promised accelerated completion of the 378.3 megawatts Egbema Power Plant in Imo State, saying it is currently 70 per cent completed.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, gave the assurance at the weekend during an inspection visit to the power plant, commending the Governor of Imo, Hope Uzodinma, for his dedication to collaborating with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company to complete the power projects in the state.

Accompanied by the Managing Director of the NDPHC, Mr Chiedu Ugbo, the minister praised President Bola Tinubu for signing the 2023 Electricity Act, which allows states to participate in the electricity sector.

Adelabu said the completion of the Egbema power plant and associated transmission projects will improve the electricity supply in Imo State and beyond.

Speaking, Uzodinma pledged to collaborate with the NDPHC to ensure the completion of the plant to improve the electricity supply in the State.

He said the collaboration would ensure the completion of the 378.3MW Egbema Power Plant, along with the 330/33KV switchyard, the Omoku-Egbema-Owerri-Alaoji 330KV DC transmission lines projects, and the Owerri transmission substation expansion project.

“The projects are at various stages with the power plant at 70 per cent completion stage. The collaboration between the Imo State Government and NDPHC aims to enhance electricity supply and energise homes and businesses in Imo State through the completion of the Egbema Power Plant and associated transmission infrastructure,” a statement by Adelabu’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, said on Sunday.
