World record holder, Tobi Amusan, has advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after a commanding performance in her opening race on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Nigerian clocked 12.53 seconds to win heat six, securing an automatic qualification spot. Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton followed in 12.69s, while Italy’s Elena Carraro placed third with 12.86s.

Amusan, who is chasing another podium finish on the global stage, will return to the tracks on Tuesday when both the semi-finals and the final are scheduled to take place.

Other top contenders, including Olympic champion Masai Russell of the United States, defending world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica, as well as Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, Ackera Nugent, and Grace Stark, also advanced after easing through their respective heats.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye fell short in the women’s hammer throw. The 29-year-old managed a distance of 68.82 metres in the qualifying round, which was not enough to secure a place in the final.
