The Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu, has cautioned ruling houses in the town against actions capable of disrupting the selection process for a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
The revered throne became vacant following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years before his death on July 13 at the age of 91. The stool rotates among four ruling houses: Fidipote, Gbelegbuwa, Anikilaya, and Fusengbuwa. With the late monarch from the Anikilaya line, it is now the turn of the Fusengbuwa ruling house to produce the next Awujale.
Alebiosu, speaking virtually on Tuesday during a visit by elders of the Fusengbuwa family led by their head, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, assured that the government would ensure a smooth, transparent process.
“We will not tolerate any interference from other ruling houses. The tradition is clear, and due process will be followed,” the chairman stated.
He further pledged that the local government would work closely with stakeholders to preserve peace and uphold the integrity of the succession process.
