As the 2027 general election draws closer, the South-North Progressive Forum (SNPF) has launched a nationwide campaign urging all political parties to zone their presidential tickets to the southern region of Nigeria.
The group said the move was critical to addressing Nigeria’s longstanding power imbalance and strengthening national unity.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, SNPF Chairman Festus Onyekwulisi outlined the forum’s objective, stressing that fair power rotation between North and South was necessary to sustain the country’s fragile democracy.
Onyekwulisi also presented data which, according to him, demonstrates the historical marginalisation of the South in presidential power-sharing, insisting that equitable zoning would foster inclusiveness and political stability.
The SNPF vowed to continue mobilising support nationwide until all major political parties commit to zoning their presidential tickets to the South.
