The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Oyo State chapter, has issued a stern warning to the state government, urging it to urgently address the welfare crisis affecting doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. The association said failure to act could trigger what it described as the “mother of all strikes.”

Dr. Happy Adedapo, chairman of the Oyo NMA, lamented what he called the unwarranted neglect of doctors’ welfare at the institution, which has already resulted in a two-month strike.

He accused the government of displaying a lackadaisical attitude toward resolving the impasse and alleged that every effort at dialogue has been blocked.

According to Adedapo, the association could no longer fold its arms while its members suffer, even as they are expected to provide quality healthcare services to residents.

He maintained that the current strike action and any further escalation would be fully justified if nothing is done in the coming days.

The warning from the doctors comes shortly after nurses and midwives at LAUTECH embarked on an indefinite strike, citing the non-implementation of the new National Minimum Wage and long-standing welfare concerns.
