Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the American rapper and music mogul, has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after being found guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution.
The 55-year-old Bad Boy Records founder received his sentence on Friday at a New York courthouse, where Judge Arun Subramanian presided over the case.
Before delivering the judgment, the judge acknowledged Combs’ achievements in music and business but stressed that the court could not ignore his troubling past. “However, the court has to consider all of your history here,” Subramanian said.
He specifically referenced allegations by Cassie Ventura and another woman identified as Jane Doe, both of whom accused Combs of coercing them into having sex with male escorts for his gratification.
“You abused them physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” the judge said.
While noting the gravity of the crimes, Subramanian told the rapper that he and his family could still find a way forward. “I know you feel you are in a dark place right now, but the crimes committed were serious. You and your family, you are going to get through this. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.”
