President Bola Tinubu has called for a crucial meeting of the Council of State and the Police Council, scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025, to address the growing insecurity across Nigeria and other pressing national matters.

The high-level sessions, which will take place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, signal the President’s renewed determination to strengthen the country’s security framework and restore public confidence amid mounting safety concerns.

In a statement released on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Umobong, announced that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has extended formal invitations to all members of both councils. Attendees have been asked to participate either in person or virtually.

According to the statement, the Council of State meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Police Council session at 2:00 p.m. Both meetings are expected to focus on key national security challenges, policing reforms, and other matters of state importance.

The Council of State, chaired by the President, serves as an advisory body composed of former Presidents, former Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, serving state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation. Its role includes providing counsel to the President on crucial issues such as national security, governance, and major appointments.
