McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art 5,000-capacity multipurpose hall, marking a major milestone in the institution’s quest to provide world-class learning facilities.
The edifice, named Stephen and Hannah Obaro Multipurpose Hall, was donated by Nigerian technology entrepreneur and founder of SystemSpecs, Dr. John Obaro, in honour of his parents.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, described the project as a “significant chievement” and the largest single infrastructure ever built in the university’s history.
“This magnificent structure stands as a testament to our commitment to creating a conducive environment for learning, research, and character development,” he said. “We deeply appreciate Dr. Obaro for this rare act of generosity, and we are confident that his gesture will inspire others to support our vision.”
The Visitor to the University and General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. (Dr.) Sam Aboyeji, commended the donor for his foresight and generosity, describing the project as “a seed that will yield countless fruits for generations.”
“This is only the beginning of many more transformative projects to come,” he said, urging other well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the institution in its developmental drive.
Dr. Obaro, while sharing the motivation behind the donation, said the hall was built to honour the legacy of his parents, Stephen and Hannah Obaro, whose love for education shaped his life.
“This project is a tribute to my parents’ belief in education as a tool for personal and national transformation,” he stated. “I also commend the Foursquare Church for its steadfast role in nation-building over the past 70 years. Institutions like McPherson University deserve solid support to sustain that legacy.”
The newly commissioned multipurpose hall is expected to serve as a venue for academic conferences, examinations, worship services, and major institutional events, further elevating McPherson University’s reputation as a centre of excellence.
