The Federal Government has announced an interest-free loan package of ₦6.3 billion to support 21,000 Nigerians affected by flood disasters nationwide.
The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Sanunu, speaking at an event to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, explained that the intervention aims to mitigate the impact of flooding on affected communities and address the resulting challenges to food security.
According to him, the loan will help victims rebuild their lives and sustain livelihoods disrupted by floods, while revealing that the government has reached over 8.1 million households through its Conditional Cash Transfer program, distributing more than ₦300 billion.
The Minister further stated that efforts are ongoing to strengthen early warning systems, improve collaboration with state governments, and build community resilience to better manage future disasters and reduce their socio-economic impact.
