The Oyo state government has urged Oke-Ogun residents to come up with relevant submissions into the proposed 2026 budget, just as it reassured them of adequate security.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Barr. Adebayo Lawal made the remarks today during the 2026 Stakeholders Consultative meeting held at Saki Township Hall.

Lawal said the exercise will give citizens of the state a voice in the budget preparation while also providing updates on the performance of the 2025 budget.

He reassured residents that previous suggestions had been integrated into earlier budgets.

Barr. Lawal however promised that all projects embarked on, after the 2025 stakeholders consultative meeting, will be completed before the expiration of the present administration’s second term.

The Deputy Governor also reassured residents of the Oke-Ogun zone of adequate security to boost economic growth of the region.

He said the Oyo state government will leave no stone unturned to strengthen security in the entire linking roads of the zone, entry and exit points, and other strategic locations in the zone.

Lawal said all hands were on deck to fish out any miscreant and use the instrumentality of the law to deal with them.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde encouraged continued civic cooperation, saying that the budget’s effectiveness relies on citizens fulfilling civic duties, including paying taxes.

He added that the consultative session is part of a larger series across the zones in the state, underscoring the forum as key to shaping the 2026 budget.

“Let me assure you that Governor Seyi Makinde has your interest at heart. What we are doing here is a foundational part of the 2026 budget presentation and it will ensure residents’ needs guide the present government’s planning.”

Various communities, religious bodies, market women, artisans, students’ leaders among others came forward to present their requests.

Present at the programme were top government functionaries, from the region and traditional rulers.

Five persons were confirmed to have been killed in attacks that occurred on Wednesday in two separate communities in Taraba State. The attacks took place in Gashaka and Wukari local government councils. While that of Gashaka that led to the killing of three persons occurred in Mayo-Sabere in Mai-Idanu ward, the Wukari incident which claimed two farmers, took place in the Rafin-Kada community. Those killed in Gashaka are Mallam Adamu Yahya, 70, Abdu Yahaya, 52 and Nuhu Yahya, 42. The identities of the two farmers could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report. Wukari council chairman, Ismaila Dauda, who made the confirmation, told DAILY POST that the attack on the farmers was carried out by Tiv militias. “It is true; two persons were killed while working in their farms by Tiv militias. I pray God Almighty will grant them eternal rest and comfort us all in Jesus’ name,” he stated. While urging the people of the community to distance themselves from acts that would lead to reprisal attacks, the leadership of the council in collaboration with the security operatives, he said, were working round the clock to track down the militias. “May I seize this opportunity to appeal to all the good people of Wukari not to take laws into their hands and allow the security agencies to investigate this issue and come up with their findings,” he begged. Sources from Gashaka council, who spoke with our reporter, said apart from the three persons killed, several people also sustained various degrees of injuries. They also blamed the rangers of the Gumti National Park for the attack in Gashaka. Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Gambo Kwache confirmed the incidents. “It was confirmed that two persons were killed in Wukari and three in Gashaka,” he disclosed. The cases, according to her, “are still under investigation and efforts are on top gear to apprehend the culprits.”
