A human rights activist and public affairs analyst, Dr. Oluwakemi Ademola Aremu, has urged the Federal Government to put the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on trial rather than keeping him in prolonged detention.

Speaking on Adamimogo 105.1 FM’s current affairs programme, Dr. Aremu reacted to the ongoing **#FreeNnamdiKanuNow** protests gaining traction in Abuja and several other states, warning that it would be disastrous if Kanu’s health continues to deteriorate while in custody.

“It would be tumultuous for the country if Nnamdi Kanu dies in detention,” she cautioned. “The Federal Government must act swiftly by ensuring he gets a fair trial instead of keeping him in continuous incarceration.”

Dr. Aremu also addressed the growing controversy surrounding the recent presidential pardons, calling for a review of the process. She alleged that some individuals may have secured clemency through questionable means.

“Those who obtained pardons from the backdoor should be ostracized by society,” she said, insisting that the integrity of the justice system must not be compromised by selective leniency.

Her comments come amid heightened public tension over Kanu’s continued detention and widespread criticism of the government’s handling of both the IPOB issue and the recent pardon list.
