A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has introduced a congressional resolution condemning the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, while voicing support for President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to tackle the crisis.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, Moore announced that the resolution, titled “Condemning the persecution of Christians in Nigeria and standing ready to support President Donald Trump in taking decisive action to end the existential threat that persecuted Christians face in Nigeria,” had been formally submitted to the House of Representatives and referred to the relevant committee for consideration.
“I just introduced a resolution condemning the atrocities Christians are facing in Nigeria and supporting @POTUS’ efforts to defend Christians who are being slaughtered,” Moore stated.
The congressman, who chairs an investigative committee established by President Trump to examine reports of religious persecution in Nigeria, described the country as “the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian.”
His remarks and the resolution come amid renewed scrutiny of religious violence and human rights abuses in parts of Nigeria.
