Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, popularly known as FRYO, has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The primary election, held on Tuesday in Osogbo under heavy security, produced a decisive outcome. According to the returning officer, FRYO secured 919 votes out of 957 valid accredited votes, placing him far ahead of other contenders.
In a twist that added drama to the exercise, the name of Governor Ademola Adeleke still appeared on the ballot despite his resignation from the PDP weeks earlier, a move only revealed publicly on Monday night. His inclusion on the ballot reportedly stemmed from the timing of his withdrawal relative to the party’s internal processes.
The PDP is expected to formally present FRYO as its flagbearer in the coming days as the party navigates the fallout from Adeleke’s exit and prepares for a high-stakes governorship contest in 2026.
