A number of Nigerian players have been named among the top 100 female footballers in the world in the latest annual ranking by British newspaper The Guardian. Nigerian Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and forward Rasheedat Ajibade were among those who led the Super Falcons’ representation.
Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who narrowly missed the list last year, returned with a ranking of 65th. Nnadozie earned acclaim for her 11 clean sheets for Paris FC last season before her high-profile move to the English Women’s Super League, where she has continued to impress as one of the finest shot-stoppers globally.
Also, forward Rasheedat Ajibade, who plays for Atlético Madrid, maintained her place in the prestigious ranking, alongside forwards Gift Monday and Esther Okoronkwo, who both made their debut appearances in the list. The inclusion of all four players highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in women’s football on the global stage.
The annual list, compiled based on votes from a panel of experts including coaches, former players, and journalists, celebrates the standout performers across women’s leagues and international tournaments over the past year.
Nigeria is now one of the most represented African nations in the 2025 ranking.
