A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Wale Oriade, was abducted by gunmen on Wednesday evening at a shopping complex in the New Garage area of Ibadan.
The incident occurred at about 7:06 p.m. on December 3, 2025, at the PJ Square Shopping Complex beside the NNPC station at Elewure, Iyana Ajanla. Eyewitnesses reported that two assailants in a blue Micra car carried out the operation, with an armed man seizing Oriade and forcing him into the vehicle before fleeing.
As of Thursday morning, the kidnappers have not contacted the family or associates of the politician, and no ransom demand has been made. The swift and coordinated nature of the abduction has sparked concern among residents and political stakeholders across the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the APC Oyo South Senatorial Chairman, Mojeed Olaoya, and the State Youth Leader, John Aremu, the party confirmed the abduction and called for immediate intervention from security agencies.
“A timely rescue will not only bring relief to Oriade’s family but also reassure the people of Oyo State that the Police Command remains proactive and committed to the protection of lives and property,” the statement read.
The Oyo APC acknowledged ongoing police efforts to maintain security and urged increased vigilance during what it described as a critical period.
