The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are through to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over South Africa in the round of 16 on Sunday.
First-half defender Junior Tchamadeu and teenage striker Christian Kofane scored a goal in each half at Rabat’s Al Medina Stadium to secure the win for the five-time champions.
Although South Africa mounted a late charge, with substitute Evidence Makgopa pulling one back in the 88th minute, Cameroon held firm to see out the match.
The victory keeps Cameroon on course for continental success as they seek to bounce back from failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Their reward is a blockbuster last-eight clash against tournament hosts Morocco, who earlier on Sunday booked their quarter-final spot with a narrow 1-0 win over Tanzania.
