Former Vice-President has made it clear that all aspirants in the ADC will contest freely in spite of plans by the ruling party, APC to weaken opposition ahead of 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Abubakar accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a campaign of intimidation to fragment the opposition before the 2027 general elections.
“Predictably, agents aligned with the presidency are now attempting to destabilise the ADC from the outside—issuing reckless prescriptions about its internal affairs, particularly the choice of a presidential candidate,” the statement read.
The former Vice-President, who is a prominent figure within the ADC, emphasized that the party was formed as a broad coalition to provide a “credible national alternative” to the APC. He insisted that its internal democratic processes would be respected.
“All qualified aspirants would present themselves freely when the party begins its selection process,” Abubakar stated, dismissing speculation about backroom negotiations for a consensus candidate from the southern region.
