Fear and tension have gripped communities in the Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a deadly nighttime attack by suspected bandits on a National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, heavily armed gunmen stormed the park facility around 9:00 p.m., launching a violent and coordinated assault that left at least four NPS personnel dead and several others injured.
The attackers reportedly infiltrated the area undetected before opening fire, overwhelming the officers on duty and sparking panic among nearby residents, many of whom now fear further violence in the area.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated, “Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men on officers of the National Park Service.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, had ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, mobile police, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel to the scene to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The police commissioner, alongside other security chiefs, is also en route to the location.
