Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Kaduna State, has been granted provisional hosting rights for the 29th edition of the Nigerian University Games (NUGA), scheduled for 2028. This marks the event’s return to the institution after more than two decades.
The Nigerian University Games Association, which organizes the biennial national competition, brings together student-athletes from universities across Nigeria to participate in various sports, promoting talent development and youth engagement.
The provisional award was communicated in a letter dated December 3, 2025, from the Acting Secretary-General of NUGA, Yunusa M. Bazza, to the Vice-Chancellor of ABU.
observers noted that the hosting rights are contingent upon the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the university and NUGA. The association’s council will announce the specific dates for the games in due course.
