The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed receiving a reported threat by suspected bandits to attack the community of Ikoyi-Ile in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said a handwritten note written in both Yoruba and English was discovered in front of a residential building in the community. The note allegedly contained the threat of an impending attack.
In response, the state Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has directed the State Intelligence Department (SID) and tactical units to commence intensive debriefing of all persons connected with the discovery of the note.
Security has been significantly reinforced in the area with intensified armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence surveillance, and strategic area domination.
This development follows a recent violent incident in the same local government area. On January 7, a 12-man gang of suspected bandits invaded the Oloka community, killing five officers of the National Park Service in their office.
