Leader of the Fusengbuwa ruling house in Ijebuland, Otunba Abdul Lateef Owoyemi, says grievances over the selection of the next Awujale should be directed to the government, insisting the kingmakers will act properly.
Owoyemi spoke in Ijebu-Ode after the completion of nominations for the vacant Awujale stool.
He said 86 princes and princesses were nominated peacefully and that the kingmakers will now consider the candidates and forward a name for approval.
Owoyemi said the process allows a 19-day window for complaints and expressed confidence that a new Awujale would emerge within a month.
“We have 86 princes and princesses who have expressed interest in the throne; we have successfully, peacefully, and harmoniously nominated eighty-six (86) candidates today. Now, it’s in the hands of the kingmakers to do their work and select one of them for us.”
We in the Fusegbuwa ruling house have conducted extensive traditional research through the oracles to guide us on what’s going to happen, and we have no doubt at all that the kingmakers will select the person the Almighty God himself has appointed, and our ancestors have also blessed,” he said.
He added that nominees had agreed in writing to accept the outcome and not challenge it in court.
