President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Kayode Are, as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the United States.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Are, who hails from Ogun State, was among four senior diplomatic nominees whose postings were finalized by the President.
The other appointees include Ayodele Oke as Ambassador-designate to France; Amin Dalhatu, a former ambassador to South Korea, as High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom; and Usman Dakingari, former governor of Kebbi State, as Ambassador-designate to Turkey.
A presidential memo has directed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formally notify the governments of the four receiving countries in line with established diplomatic protocols.
The nominees, Are, Oke, and Dalhatu were all confirmed as non-career ambassadors by the Senate last month, paving the way for their current strategic postings.
