Zimbabwe-born UFC fighter Themba Gorimbo, the first from his country to win a fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has sparked widespread discussion after declaring he has severed all contact with his family and no longer identifies as Zimbabwean.
In a recent interview shared online by CNN journalist Larry Madowo, Gorimbo revealed he intentionally cut off communication with every member of his family to maintain focus on his career.
“I don’t talk to any of my family members anymore. None,” he stated. “I have cut all my family members off my phone. I blocked them.”
He clarified that his decision was not driven by animosity, saying, “I love my family from far.”
Gorimbo also rejected national affiliation, explaining, “I don’t belong to Zimbabwe. I belong to the universe. I belong to every single person that wants to take inspiration from me.”
