The Lagos State Government is yet to respond to allegations by human rights activist Opeyemi Ogunlami, who has dismissed reports that the government has begun paying compensation to victims of the Oworonshoki demolition, describing the claims as false.

Speaking on Adamimogo 93.1 FM’s Oro-Re, a current affairs programme, Ogunlami alleged that those said to have received compensation were government allies and associates of the traditional ruler of Oworonshoki, whom he claimed was among those who masterminded the demolition.

He lamented the devastating impact of the exercise, saying it had shattered the lives and livelihoods of residents who spent a lifetime building their homes in the area.

Recall that on October 25, 2025, officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency demolished houses along the Iyana Oworonshoki coastline, insisting the structures were illegal.

The state government had maintained that legal occupants whose structures were demolished were duly compensated.
