Ibadan will once again be the stage for Nigeria’s national youth women’s football team as Oyo State prepares to host the Falconets in a decisive 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Senegal.
The encounter is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, marking another major international football fixture for the state.
In a statement on Monday, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, confirmed that the state was selected by the Nigeria Football Federation due to its successful hosting of a previous Falconets’ qualifier against Rwanda last year.
“The choice of Oyo State reflects confidence in our sporting infrastructure, organisational competence, and security readiness,” Adegoke stated.
She highlighted the Falconets’ emphatic victory over Rwanda at the same venue as proof of the state’s capacity to host world-class events.
“The successful hosting of the Falconets against Rwanda showcased Oyo State’s world-class facilities and our ability to organise international fixtures that meet global standards,” the Commissioner added. “The Lekan Salami Stadium has continued to serve as a fortress for our national teams, and we are confident the Falconets will once again make the nation proud.”
