A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has scheduled March 28 and 29 for the election of a new National Working Committee.
The dates were approved on Monday during the faction’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja. In a communiqué issued afterward, the group expressed full support for the recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan that nullified the party’s November 15 national convention, commending the judiciary for “upholding the rule of law.”
The faction outlined a roadmap to the convention, stating that ward and local government congresses will be held in February, followed by state congresses. The national convention will then take place in Abuja at the end of March.
Pending these elections, the NEC approved the extension of the tenure of the current National Caretaker Working Committee, led by Abdulrahman Muhammed, as well as caretaker committees at the zonal and state levels.
The communiqué called on all party members to “remain united, disciplined, and loyal,” avoiding actions that could undermine cohesion and placing the collective interest of the PDP above personal considerations. It reaffirmed the faction’s commitment to rebuilding “a strong, disciplined, democratic, and electorally competitive party.”
