The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has been summoned to appear personally or through legal representation before the Oyo State High Court sitting in Oyo town following a suit filed against him by a group of Oyo princes.

The suit, marked HOY/18/2026, was instituted by Ladigbolu Adegboyega, Owoade Tesleem, Adeyemi Adesina and Adeyemi Adebayo, who are challenging certain actions and public appearances of the monarch. The claimants are asking the court to grant a series of declaratory and injunctive reliefs against the Alaafin.

Central to their case is a request for a perpetual injunction restraining Oba Owoade, either personally or through representatives, from attending or continuing to attend events and functions which they argue are incompatible with the dignity and symbolic status of the Alaafin as a foremost traditional ruler and cultural figure of the Yoruba people.

The princes further urged the court to bar the monarch from engaging in any traditional or official activities that, in their view, portray him as subordinate or inferior to any other Oba in Yorubaland.
