The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has accused former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and other opposition figures of double standards over the issue of electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act.

During a media chat today, Wike accused Amaechi of persuading former President Muhammadu Buhari not to sign the provision approving electronic transmission of results when they were in power.

Meanwhile, African democratic Congress National Working Committee member, Kenneth Okonkwo has faulted the amended electoral law, noting that the APC wants to use institutionalised methods to rig the election before the day of the election.

Another chieftain of the ADC, Prof Pat Utomi submitted that the government should return that so-called law to the National Assembly and make a law that reflects what the people want.

However Wike maintained that the new Electoral Act does not prohibit electronic transmission of results but seeks to prevent disenfranchisement by allowing manual transmission where electronic transmission fails.
