Rival factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed confidence ahead of Monday’s judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on the ongoing dispute over the party’s leadership.
The case centres on competing claims to the leadership structure of the party, with both sides insisting that legal precedents and statutory provisions support their positions.
Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), confirmed that the Court of Appeal had scheduled the consolidated cases involving the PDP for judgment on Monday. The faction is supported by Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, and Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State.
On the other side of the dispute, Jungudo Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the caretaker committee led by Acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman and Acting National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, also confirmed that the appeal court had fixed the matter for judgment.
The caretaker committee faction is backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In separate interviews, spokespersons for the rival groups maintained that the legal arguments and statutory interpretations presented before the court favour their respective positions, expressing optimism that the judgment would resolve the leadership tussle in their favour.
