The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has commenced the payment of compensation to tenants affected by land acquisition for the Blue Line Depot in Okokomaiko.
LAMATA said the payment exercise began on Wednesday and will end today to ensure that all verified tenants receive their entitlements in a timely manner.
While the current phase focuses on relocation assistance for tenants, the agency confirmed that high-level discussions with landlords are ongoing, with their compensation expected to be finalised soon.
According to LAMATA, the compensation exercise marks a significant milestone toward the completion of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line Phase Two project.
The project, which will extend rail services from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, is currently under active construction and remains on track for its scheduled completion.
LAMATA noted that addressing the welfare of Project Affected Persons (PAPs) demonstrates its commitment to a socially responsible approach in delivering an integrated, efficient and multimodal transport system for Lagos residents.
