A political support group of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, has begun a nationwide rice distribution exercise aimed at supporting Nigerians observing the fasting periods of Ramadan and Lent.
The initiative followed a directive from the President, according to a statement issued by the Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma.
Uzodinma explained that the intervention was designed to support citizens during the sacred period while promoting compassion, solidarity and national unity across religious lines.
He noted that both Ramadan and Lent represent seasons of sacrifice, charity and reflection for Muslims and Christians respectively, making it important for leaders and institutions to extend support to vulnerable families.
“Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity and care for one another,” the governor said.
According to the statement, the rice distribution will be coordinated through the nationwide grassroots structure of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to ensure that families across the country benefit from the programme.
Uzodinma said the exercise reflects the President’s broader commitment to encouraging unity and compassion among Nigerians during spiritually significant periods.
The support group added that the intervention is expected to help ease the burden on households during the fasting season when millions of Muslims and Christians observe religious obligations centred on prayer, reflection and charity.
