A social media user’s account of spending the night safely inside a broken-down vehicle along the Apapa/Oshodi Expressway has sparked reactions, including a response from the Lagos State Government highlighting its security interventions.
The user, who shared the experience on X, recounted how his vehicle broke down around 11pm, forcing him to push it to Ijesha Road with the help of passersby.
He said he braced for the worst but was able to sleep inside the car undisturbed until his mechanic arrived the next morning.
Describing the experience as “peaceful,” he attributed his safety to divine protection, noting that “in a place where anything can happen, God showed me mercy and protection.”
Reacting to the post, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, acknowledged the user’s gratitude to God but emphasized the role of government efforts in improving security across the state.
Wahab stated that the government has, in recent months, intensified security surveillance and enforcement operations aimed at protecting residents and motorists.
According to him, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has arrested over 300 suspected miscreants, locally referred to as “Omotaku,” across different parts of the state.
He added that monitoring teams have been deployed to patrol roads, particularly at night, while the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps has been tasked with securing pedestrian bridges and areas under bridges often used by criminals.
