Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is set to formally present staff of office to newly elevated crown-wearing Obas in Ibadanland today (Friday), in a ceremony expected to draw dignitaries from across the country.
The development was confirmed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, who said the event would take place at the historic Mapo Hall by 10:00 a.m.
Among those to be crowned are the senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, who has been elevated to the position of Ekaarun Balogun. Others include Bolaji Adewoyin and Kola Babalola, who have been promoted to Ekeerin Olubadan and Ekaarun Olubadan, respectively.
With their elevation, the high chiefs are expected to transition into full obaship status, thereby attaining higher standing within the traditional hierarchy of Ibadanland.
The state government noted that the ceremony would attract traditional rulers, government officials, and members of the public, underscoring its cultural and political significance.
However, there are indications of uncertainty surrounding the event, as sources within the city and reports from the family compounds of the elevated monarchs suggest that preparations on the ground appear minimal.
