A Former Osun State Governor, Adebisi Akande, and ex-Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, have reportedly advised the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to reconsider his governorship ambition in Oyo State and align with the broader interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The intervention comes amid growing speculation that Adelabu may soon resign from the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu to pursue his 2027 governorship ambition.
Adelabu, who contested the Oyo governorship election under the APC in 2019 and later on the platform of Accord in 2023, has consistently signalled his intention to run again. However, recent developments suggest he may not enjoy the backing of key power blocs within the party.
Political activities intensified on Friday when Sarafadeen Alli, widely seen as a leading contender, formally flagged off his campaign at the Police Barracks field in Yemetu, Ibadan. The event drew prominent APC stakeholders, though notable aspirants, including Adelabu and Teslim Folarin, were absent.
Further fueling speculation, a viral video circulated over the weekend showing supporters of Adelabu suggesting that the minister would step down from his current role to focus on his gubernatorial ambition.
