The United States Mission in Nigeria has cautioned Nigerian travellers against overstaying their visas, warning that such violations could negatively impact future applicants.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Monday, the mission stressed the importance of complying with U.S. immigration regulations.
“Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens”.
“Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travellers, and families who travel responsibly.”
The mission also flagged visa fraud and misuse of travel documents as serious concerns, urging applicants to respect the terms of their visas throughout their stay in the United States.
It called on the public to help maintain the integrity of the visa system by reporting credible cases of fraud through designated consular channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to lawful travel, the mission said it remains focused on supporting safe, legal, and orderly movement between Nigeria and the United States, while ensuring that compliant travellers are not penalised for the actions of others.
