The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against infrastructure vandalism with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of railway materials valued at over ₦400 million.

Forec Public relation officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid said the operation, carried out by the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad, led to the arrest of two suspects, identified as Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22, on April 9, 2026, in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

According to Placid, Police operatives intercepted a trailer truck transporting about 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers.

The materials were reportedly concealed beneath sacks of groundnut shells in an attempt to evade detection while being moved from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver had been contracted for ₦2.5 million to transport the items.

Authorities also uncovered indications of an organised supply chain linked to receivers of stolen railway infrastructure.

In the course of the operation, the police disclosed that officers rejected a ₦100 million bribe allegedly offered to secure the release of the suspects and the recovered items.

The trailer used in conveying the materials has been seized, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover additional exhibits.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and integrity, describing their actions as a reflection of the core values of the Force.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting national infrastructure and curbing acts of vandalism across the country.
