British heavyweight boxer Daniel Dubois produced a dramatic comeback performance to defeat fellow Briton Fabio Wardley and become a two-time world champion after a brutal 11-round heavyweight showdown.
Dubois survived two early knockdowns including one just 10 seconds into the contest before overpowering Wardley in a thrilling fight that ended with the referee stepping in during the 11th round.
Wardley made a stunning start, flooring Dubois with a powerful right hand moments after the opening bell. He dropped Dubois again in the third round as the fight appeared to be slipping away from the 28-year-old challenger.
However, Dubois gradually regained control, responding with relentless combinations and heavy punches that visibly wore down Wardley as the bout progressed.
Despite suffering severe facial damage, including a bloodied nose and a swollen eye that was nearly shut, Wardley continued to fight back courageously in front of an energized crowd.
As the punishment mounted and Wardley struggled to defend himself effectively, the referee eventually halted the contest in the 11th round, handing Dubois victory and the World Boxing Organization heavyweight title.
An emotional Wardley dropped to his knees after the stoppage, while Dubois celebrated a career-defining triumph.
“It was a war, thank you Fabio for that,” Dubois said after the fight.
“I know I’ve got heart, bundles of heart. I’m a warrior in there. I had to get back up, bounce it off and come back harder.”
The victory was Dubois’ 23rd professional win and reinforced his standing among boxing’s elite heavyweights, especially after criticism surrounding his mentality and resilience in recent months.
For Wardley, the defeat marked the first loss of his professional career after 22 fights.
