Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that his administration is laying a strong foundation to transform Oyo State into the tourism hub of South-West Nigeria and one of the nation’s top tourist destinations.
The governor made the declaration on Wednesday during the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde said the government had implemented strategic policies, improved infrastructure and created economic enablers aimed at driving tourism growth across the state.
He noted that ongoing road projects linking towns and communities, strengthened security architecture and efforts to revive major tourist attractions would enhance tourism activities and attract more visitors and investors to the state in the coming years.
Speaking on the theme of the summit, “From Groundwork to Governance: Building Tourism That Endures,” the governor stressed the importance of policy continuity in sustaining tourism development and encouraging long-term investment in the sector.
Makinde added that tourism remained a critical component of economic diversification and job creation, noting that his administration was committed to building a sustainable tourism ecosystem capable of contributing significantly to the state’s economy.
