The All Progressives Congress has confirmed that its presidential primary election for the 2027 general elections will hold on May 23, 2026, dismissing reports claiming that the exercise had been postponed.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described information circulating on social media and other communication platforms about changes to the party’s timetable as false and misleading.
According to the timetable released by the ruling party, the House of Representatives primary election will take place on May 15, 2026, while the Senate primary is scheduled for May 18.
The party also fixed May 20 for the State House of Assembly primary elections.
The governorship primary election is expected to hold on May 21, with the presidential primary slated for May 23, 2026.
The APC stated that the timetable remained valid and urged party members and the public to disregard unverified reports suggesting any adjustment to the schedule.
Meanwhile, the party on Saturday commenced the screening of incumbent governors ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling the beginning of internal preparations for the nationwide polls.
