The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted N100 million bail to the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who is facing trial for an alleged breach of national security.
Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik attached several stringent conditions to the bail.
The ex-governor is required to provide one surety, who must be a Grade Level 17 or above federal civil servant and reside in Abuja’s Maitama or Asokoro districts.
The surety is required to submit an original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property, with three months of authenticated salary bank statements, an affidavit of means, a signed bail bond, and a recent passport photograph to the court.
Additionally, The court directed that a verification letter from the surety’s immediate department be submitted, alongside a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
As part of his bail conditions, El-Rufai is to deposit all valid international passports with the court and submit a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
Furthermore, he is required to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters on the last Friday of every month at 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register. Justice Abdulmalik warned that non-compliance would result in immediate bail revocation.
