Parents stormed the premises of Baptist Basic School I and III in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Tuesday, to forcefully withdraw their children after an unverified rumour of bandit attack.
The panic reportedly stemmed from false reports circulating within the community that armed bandits had invaded neighbouring villages along the Ajawa axis.
Footage from the scene showed chaotic moments as frightened parents forced open the school gates, hurriedly picking up their children.
A community source who told Newsmen the incident stated that the panic escalated rapidly despite frantic efforts by school management to calm the situation.
“The parents stormed the school, forced the gate open, and began taking their children away by force,” the source said. “The information they heard was that bandits were around Ajawa, which is not true.”
According to the source, the teachers tried to reassure the parents after making contact with local security operatives, who clarified that the unrest in the area was an isolated clash, not a bandit invasion.
The incident showed the anxiety in some part of Oyo State, due to the recent attack and the abduction of teachers and pupils within the Ogbomoso axis.
