The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Oyo State, Adeniran Rahmon Tella, has urged members of staff across the state to place priority on security and personal safety in the discharge of their duties.
The call was made during an emergency meeting convened by the commissioner with staff members at the commission’s office following growing security concerns in parts of the state.
According to the REC, the meeting became necessary in view of recent incidents of insecurity and the need to ensure that officials remain vigilant while carrying out their responsibilities.
The session also reviewed progress made in the ongoing political party primary elections taking place across the state, with Tella urging staff members to demonstrate professionalism and maturity expected of the electoral body during the process.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of the commission’s operations and ensuring that officials conduct themselves appropriately throughout the exercise.
Tella also expressed sympathy with families affected by the recent wave of kidnappings in the state and offered prayers for the safe release of victims still in captivity.
The Oyo INEC office reiterated its commitment to conducting credible, free and fair electoral processes, noting that such objectives can only be effectively achieved when staff members operate in a secure and safe environment.
