Liverpool FC have announced the departure of head coach Arne Slot, bringing an end to his tenure at Anfield after just two seasons in charge.
The club confirmed in a statement that Slot has left his position with immediate effect and that efforts to appoint a new manager are already underway.
Slot was appointed in 2024 as the successor to Jürgen Klopp and enjoyed a dream debut campaign, guiding Liverpool to their 20th Premier League title.
However, the Reds endured a difficult follow-up season, struggling to replicate their previous success. The club reportedly suffered 20 defeats across all competitions and only secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League after finishing within the expanded top-five qualification places.
The disappointing campaign is believed to have influenced the decision by Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, to end Slot’s reign before the final year of his contract.
“Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way,” the club said in its statement.
Slot leaves Anfield having delivered a Premier League title but unable to sustain the momentum in the seasons that followed. Attention will now turn to Liverpool’s search for a new manager as the club seeks to rebuild and challenge for major honours once again.
