Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and security-conscious amid concerns over the activities of kidnappers operating across the country.
Akpabio warned that criminal groups involved in kidnapping for ransom may be seeking not only financial gains but also attempting to create fear and project a negative image of Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja during infrastructure inauguration, former Akwa Ibom state governor said Nigerians must be cautious and take necessary precautions to avoid falling victim to criminal elements.
“Be careful about people trying to kidnap for ransom. They are kidnapping in order to cause a distraction; they are kidnapping in order to give the impression that Nigeria is not safe,” Akpabio said.
He emphasized the need for citizens to cooperate with security agencies by remaining alert, reporting suspicious activities, and supporting efforts aimed at tackling insecurity across the country.
The Senate President’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities threatening public safety in several parts of Nigeria.
