The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The curfew, introduced earlier in the week as part of measures to strengthen security around the Old Oyo National Park, has now been withdrawn, allowing residents to resume their normal daily activities.
The government had on Tuesday announced a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas bordering the national park after the kidnapping incident heightened security concerns in the region.
A memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, stated that the restriction, which took effect on Wednesday, was to run from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. and would remain in force for an initial period of two days.
The affected local government areas were Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
Announcing the lifting of the curfew on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, said the decision followed a review of the security situation in the affected areas.
He thanked residents for their patience, cooperation and understanding during the enforcement of the restriction, noting that their support contributed to the government’s efforts to maintain peace and public order.
Oyelade, however, assured residents that the state government would continue to closely monitor developments and work with security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
