The Lagos State Government has intensified the removal of shanties, illegal structures and other environmental nuisances along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway as part of efforts to restore environmental order across the corridor.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed that the enforcement exercise has been ongoing for the past three weeks, with officials clearing encroachments and unauthorized developments along the major highway.
According to the commissioner, the operation will be followed by sustained surveillance and continuous monitoring to ensure that the cleared areas remain free from illegal occupation and environmental violations.
The state government also warned residents against converting public spaces into illegal markets or using them for any unauthorized private activities.
The commissioner stressed that anyone found encroaching on public spaces or engaging in unlawful use of government land would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the extant laws of Lagos State.
The renewed enforcement drive is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve sanitation, protect public infrastructure and maintain a cleaner, safer environment across the state.
