The Oyo State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has called for the immediate rescue of a primary school headmaster who was abducted in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and the State Secretary, Salami Olukayode, the union expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as another indication of the worsening security situation affecting teachers and education workers.
According to the statement, M.K. Owoade, the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was reportedly kidnapped on his farmland on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at about 5 p.m.
The union said the incident was brought to the attention of the state leadership by the NUT branch in Itesiwaju Local Government through an urgent notice circulated to members.
Describing the abduction as disturbing, the union urged the government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the headmaster’s immediate release and strengthen security for teachers and residents across the state.
“We call on the government, security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts at securing the immediate rescue of the abducted headmaster and ensuring the safety of teachers and all citizens within their communities and workplaces,” the statement read.
The union also expressed solidarity with the victim’s family, colleagues and pupils, praying for his safe return while urging its members to remain vigilant amid the prevailing security challenges.
It further prayed for divine protection for citizens and the quick and safe release of the abducted headmaster.
