The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oyo State, has urged eligible residents to take immediate advantage of the two-week extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, warning against last-minute congestion and disappointment.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, issued the call in a media release on Thursday, reiterating that the third and final phase of the CVR will officially end on Sunday, 26th July 2026.
The extension, which began on Saturday, 11th July, is intended to accommodate citizens yet to register, those who have turned 18, persons who have never registered before, as well as registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal details.
Prof. Tella strongly advised prospective registrants not to wait until the final days of the exercise, noting that such delays often result in unnecessary congestion, long queues, and avoidable disappointment.
To ease the process, the Commission has introduced a Self-Service Online Registration Portal for first-time voters, accessible at cvr.inecnigeria.org. The portal allows eligible citizens to complete their registration without visiting an INEC office.
“This innovation is designed to eliminate physical appearance of registrants, allow doing it at one’s convenient area and time, and make the registration process faster and more convenient,” the REC stated.
He urged all eligible residents in Oyo State to utilise the online facility within the stipulated period and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting a transparent, inclusive, and credible voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 General Election.
