The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has described its presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as a unifying figure for Nigerians seeking a new direction for the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said Makinde’s growing national acceptance reflects increasing public demand for credible, accountable and people-centred leadership.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, the APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, said ongoing cross-party discussions were yielding positive results as the party works to build a formidable opposition alliance for the 2027 polls.
According to Yusuf, the APM is rapidly emerging as a preferred platform for opposition groups seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“APM’s cross-party talks are yielding results, making the platform the fastest-growing political alliance for opposition parties to present a formidable front to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress at the elections,” he said.
Yusuf also cited recent political developments in Ekiti State as evidence of the party’s growing influence.
He disclosed that thousands of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside other residents, gathered in Ado-Ekiti on Friday to reaffirm their support for Governor Makinde and their collaboration with the APM ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the supporters pledged to work with the APM while retaining their membership and organisational structure within the PDP.
The APM said the ongoing alliance-building efforts are aimed at strengthening the opposition and presenting what it described as a credible alternative to the current administration in the next general elections.
